Titus Engel receives title “Conductor of the Year 2020” by Opernwelt

The magazine “Opernwelt” has chosen Titus Engel as “Conductor of the Year 2020”. “He learned to play music democratically very early, and he also appreciates the well-kept discourse. From this, as well as from his in-depth reading of the score, he gains his sharp interpretations which lead the listener to the essence of the respective work and even a little further”, says the jury of “Opernwelt”, which consists of 43 critics. Particularly highlighted were his interpretations of Philipp Glass’ musical theatre “Einstein on the Beach” in Geneva and the “Boris Godunow” project at the Stuttgart State Opera, in which Modest Mussorgsky’s opera was combined with six miniature dramas by the composer Sergej Newski.

The Title “Conductor of the Year” has been given twice in 2020, Kirill Petrenko was also awarded.
