Robert Schumann | Complete works for Piano Trio

“One must have the courage to embrace the darkness and, with Schumann, be able to leap from heaven to hell in a tenth of a second […] This music is extreme and deeply emotional – my goodness! The slow movements are like voices from paradise, with the most beautiful melodic lines one can imagine.” (Antje Weithaas)

At the end of October, Antje Weithaas will release her next album: a recording of all works for piano trio by Robert Schumann (Deutsche Grammophon, 2 CDs) with cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and Dénes Várjon on the piano.
The album brings together the three piano trios, Op. 63, 80 and 110, as well as the Fantasiestücke, Op. 88. The latter were composed from 1842 onwards as Schumann’s first compositions for piano trio and were revised prior to their publication in 1850.

The album was recorded over seven intensive days in February and March 2025 and is being released in the year of Antje Weithaas’s 60th birthday.
