Premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Aida” in the Austrian UNESCO World Heritage Site St. Margarethen Quarry
From 10 July to 24 August 2024, the team led by Thaddeus Strassberger (production and stage design) and Daniel Serafin (artistic director) will bring the world of the pharaohs to the rocky landscape and transform the St. Margarethen quarry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, into a breathtaking stage for Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Aida”! Giuseppe Palella, named “Costume Designer of the Year 2023” by the magazine Opernwelt, will provide magnificent costumes, Driscoll Otto will create impressive lighting effects and Ran Arthur Braun will perform spectacular stunts.
Conductor Iván López-Reynoso leads the PIEDRA Festival Orchestra and an international ensemble through Verdi’s masterpiece. Special highlights include the performances of Leah Crocetto, Ekaterina Sannikova and Leah Gordon as Aida, as well as Hovhannes Ayvazyan, Jorge Puerta and Mikheil Sheshaberidze as Radames.
Premiere is on 10 July 2024 at 8:15 pm.
