Brief profile
Vanessa Porter is one of the most versatile percussionists internationally and is in demand for various projects, concert formats and programmes. As a soloist she combines current works with improvisation, electronics and the performing arts and collaborates with renowned composers such as Georges Aperghis, Zeynep Gedizlioglu, Jennifer Walshe or Ben-Amots Ofer. Using voice, body percussion, bells or vibraphone: she creates hypnotic soundscapes between soft beauty and eruptive power.
In 2024, she made her successful debut with the Deutsche Symphonieorchester Berlin playing Ferran Cruixent’s percussion concert Focs d’artifici at the Philharmonie Berlin as part of her Deutschlandfunk debut.
In the 2025/26 season Vanessa Porter plays at Beethovenfest Bonn, at Alte Oper Frankfurt, BASF Ludwigshafen, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as well as at Rheingau Musik Festival. Together with Staatskapelle Halle under Fabrice Bollon she will perform Rebecca Saunders Void for Percussion Duo and Orchester with Emil Kuyumcuyan. In addition, the world premiere of Samir Odeh-Tamimi’s solo work Éndropía is scheduled for the ECLAT Festival Stuttgart 2026.
As from fall 2024, Vanessa Porter is professor of percussion at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe.
