Reopening Beethovenhalle Bonn

brief information

After extensive renovations the Beethovenhalle in Bonn will finally be reopened on December 16, 2025 with a festive concert. On the programme of the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn under Dirk Kaftan will be a.o. Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 – the Resurrection Symphony (»Aufersteh’n, ja aufersteh’n wirst du, mein Herz, in einem Nu!«).

The hall was built by the architect Siegfried Wolske, who was a student of the architect of the Berlin Philharmonie, Hans Scharoun – and the building like so many cultural buildings at that time (opening 1959) was built with the idea of a strong democracy in mind, as an architectural sign against the Nazi past. We tend to forget this important impetus in the fifties and sixties here in Germany. And it is more important now than ever before.

On August 28, 2025 the City of Bonn, represented by mayor Katja Dörner and the leading project manager of the refurbishment and modernization process, Steffen Göbel, handed the hall over to it’s operating company, Bonn Conference Center Management GmbH (BonnCC). Under the motto “A hall for all” the Beethovenhalle will be a venue not only for concerts but cultural events in general, conferences or corporate events.

It offers space for events with up to 3,200 people, including around 1,700 people in the Great Hall. In future, the Beethovenhalle Studio will not only be the new rehearsal room for the Beethoven Orchestra, but has also been designed as a new chamber music hall with seating for around 500 people. Thanks to the variability of the floor, it can also be used for a wide range of other events – a new hall within the Beethovenhalle.
