Biography
Marcel Brunner hails from Bad Mergentheim in the region of Tauber Franconia and is one of the most sought-after bass-baritones of his generation. He studied voice with Christiane Libor, Stephan Klemm and Snežana Stamenkovic. From 2018 to 2024, he was a member of the ensemble at the Mannheim National Theatre. Since then, he has been working as a freelance artist. His most important roles on the opera stage include Figaro, Leporello, Papageno, Escamillo, Herzog Blaubart, as well as Alberich and Gunther in „Der Ring an einem Abend“. Guest engagements have taken him to the Stuttgart State Opera, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Leipzig Opera, the Aalto Theatre in Essen, the Estates Theatre in Prague, the Grand Théâtre Luxembourg, the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent and the Easter Festival of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in Baden-Baden, among others.
In concert, he has performed at the Berlin Philharmonie, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, the DeSingel in Antwerp, the Pfalzbau Ludwigshafen, the Ghent Festival in Sint Baafs and the Bachakademie Stuttgart. He regularly performs with pianist Doriana Tchakarova in recitals, where he presents programmes he has devised himself. He can also be heard in various radio and CD recordings for SWR and Deutschlandfunk.
In September his debut album “Remembrance” – a musical reflection on war, loss and hope – with songs by Hanns Eisler, Rudi Stephan, Robert Kahn and Charles Ives will be released on hänssler classics (with the pianist Doriana Tchakarova).
