Biography
Dmitry Ablogin is regarded as one of the most brilliant and creative keyboard artists of his generation and possesses the “Abloginian fine articulation” (Frankfurter Rundschau). After studying with Vladimir Tropp at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow and completing his concert exam with Jesper Bøje Christensen at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main, he has established himself as a versatile artist. In 2021, he won the 10th International German Pianist Award and made his debut at the Alte Oper Frankfurt. As a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, including the International Chopin Competition for Historical Instruments and the International Competition “Musica Antiqua”, Dmitry Ablogin inspires audiences worldwide.
In the 2023/2024 concert season, Dmitry Ablogin made his debut on renowned concert stages such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus Freiburg, the Edinburgh Queen’s Hall and the Glasgow City Halls. He has performed as a soloist with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century (18c.), the Baden-Baden Philharmonic and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber music partner, he works with artists such as the Eliot String Quartet, the Henschel Quartet, the violinist Alena Baeva and the cellist Anastasia Kobekina as well as the soprano Kateryna Kasper.
One of the highlights of the upcoming 2024/2025 season will be Dmitry Ablogin’s performance at the “Chopin and His Europe” festival in Warsaw, where he will present a special programme on both a fortepiano and a modern Steinway. He will also play this programme at the Chopin Festival in Hamburg in October 2024. In the same month, Dmitry Ablogin will return to the Miami Piano Festival, where he will perform Hummels’ Piano Concerto No. 2 and give a recital with works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Scriabin in January 2025.
In March 2025, Dmitry Ablogin will also make his debut in Canada, Vancouver, in the concert series of the Vancouver Chopin Society, in collaboration with Early Music Vancouver. Here he will perform a fortepiano recital with works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Field and the virtuoso Romantic Sonata in F sharp minor, op. 81 by Hummel. He will also repeat this programme in the Great Hall of the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and in the Schiedmayer Piano Salon in Munich.
Another highlight is his concert in April 2025 with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century (18c.) in Utrecht and Arnhem, where he will perform an enchanting Mozart programme, including the Piano Concerto No. 25. In November 2024, Ablogin will then go on tour with the Alinde Quartet, performing piano quintets by Schumann and Schnittke in Gran Canaria and at the Cologne Philharmonie.
His discography includes impressive works, including a double album of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations on the Organum Classics label, recorded on a modern Fazioli concert grand piano and a fortepiano built in 1825 by Nannette Streicher, a friend of Beethoven. This album was honoured as album of the week on BR-Klassik, among others. His previous albums with chamber music by César Franck with the Eliot Quartet (Genuin) and songs by Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn with soprano Kateryna Kasper (TYXArt) were nominated for major music awards such as the “German Record Critics’ Award”, the “Opus Klassik” and the “International Classical Music Awards”. In October 2023, the Chopin Institute in Warsaw released his latest album with a selection of Chopin’s late works on a historical Pleyel Fortepiano No. 14810, once Chopin’s last instrument.
Dmitry Ablogin combines historical and modern pianos in a unique way and thus offers an extraordinary approach to the works and a special listening experience for his audience.
