Violinist Sarah Christian presents her debut CD with Prokofiev and Schubert

Like many of her fellow violinists, Sarah Christian has a career as child prodigy behind her. Today, she is the principal concertmaster of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and a soloist and chamber musician who is in demand across the world. Together with Maximilian Hornung, she has now also founded her own festival: the “Freistil-Festival” in her home town of Augsburg. In 2010 she completed her studies at the Mozarteum Salzburg with a distinction, before going on to study with Antje Weithaas at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin.

For her debut CD (Release: 2nd of June, Genuin), the now 27-year-old artist has very deliberately chosen a rather unusual combination of composers: Prokofiev and Schubert. She sees the rich sonorities and brilliant, sparkling effects in Prokofiev’s Fminor Sonata op. 80 as a fascinating foil to the late Fantasy D. 934 by Schubert: “While Prokofiev gives free rein to turbulent emotions, Schubert embodies a kind of patient forbearance for me. He puts up with everything, accepting both happiness and unhappiness. His music often feels like a fatherly hand stroking comfortingly over a child’s head. It was a very exciting challenge bringing together these two very different composers, especially on my first CD.”
