Trumpeter Simon Höfele releases CD with works of the 20th and 21st century

When we think of standard works for the trumpet, it is music of the 18th century that tends to spring to mind. The same baroque and classical pieces have been and continue to be recorded time and time again, whereas recordings of contemporary trumpet music are extremely few and far between. It is fortunate, therefore, that there are artists like Simon Höfele. This 23-year-old musician is one of the most exciting young trumpeters on the international music scene and has a passion for contemporary works, including the very newest. His latest CD, “Concertino” (dTb production) thus includes only pieces that were written within the past 100 years. The oldest compositions on it are Paul Hindemith’s “Drei StĂĽcke fĂĽr fĂĽnf Instrumente” (“Three Pieces for Five Instruments”) from 1925, while the most contemporary works, by Matthias Pintscher and Kathrin Denner, were written within the past 10 years.

Anyone wanting to experience Simon Höfele live will have several opportunities to do so in the coming months. On October 31, 2017, he will be making his dĂ©but with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, playing the trumpet concerto by Alexander Arutiunian, and on November 11 he will be a guest in the Glasgow City Halls, interpreting Toshio Hosokawa’s composition “Im Nebel” with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. On 24 and 26 January, 2018, he will be playing the Arutiunian trumpet concerto with the SWR-Symphonieorchester in the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, and on May 31, 2018, he can be heard in the Berlin Philharmonie alongside the French star trumpeter ClĂ©ment Saunier in Matthias Pintscher’s concert piece “Chute d’Étoiles – Homage to Anselm Kiefer”, partnered by the Rundfunk- Sinfonieorchester Berlin.
