Marcus Bosch – Conductor

Marcus Bosch has been General Music Director of the Bavarian State Theater and the Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra since 2011. Since summer 2010 Marcus Bosch has also served as artistic director of the opera festival in his native city of Heidenheim, where he has founded the festival orchestra, Cappella Aquileia. Marcus_Bosch_014 At the start of the 2016/2017 season, he was also appointed principal guest conductor of the SĂĽdwestdeutsche Philharmonie, and from the 2016/2017 winter semester he will be teaching conducting as professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, succeeding Bruno Weil in the position.

After his debut with the German State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate at the age of 24, the conductor, who is of German-Brazilian descent, decided to pursue a traditional career as a music director and opera conductor, which took him to the State Theaters in Wiesbaden and SaarbrĂĽcken and the Halle State Orchestra. From 2002 to 2012 Marcus Bosch enjoyed great success as General Music Director in Aachen, where he launched his international career.

He has conducted many of the major orchestras in Europe, Asia and America, including the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Lyon, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestra Nazionale della RAI Torino, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the MDR Symphony Orchestra, and the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie.

Marcus Bosch has appeared as a guest conductor with various opera companies, among them the Saxon State Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Basel Theater, the Göteborg Opera, and the Verona Philharmonic Theater (Tristan und Isolde). He is a regular guest at the Hamburg State Opera, where since his debut with Fidelio in 2005 he has conducted Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Der Freischütz, Falstaff, Macbeth, and Der fliegende Holländer.

During the past few years he has built an extensive discography, including internationally acclaimed complete recordings of the symphonies of Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner as well as a DVD release of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg recorded at the Nuremberg State Theater. He is currently recording the complete symphonies of Antonín Dvořák with the Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra on the Coviello Classics label. In September 2016 the début CD with the Cappella Aquileia was released with the schumann Symphonies Nos. 4 and 2.

In the 2017/2018 season, he will conduct a new production of Berlioz'”Les Troyens“ (production: Calixto Bieito), Mozart’s “Idomeneo“ with the director David Bösch and, together with Peter Konwitschny, Zimmermann’s „Die Soldaten“ in Nuremberg. In Leipzig, he will conduct the resumptions of “Tosca” and “Der FreischĂĽtz”. He will also lead the new production of “Die Fledermaus” by Johann StrauĂź in Cologne. International guest conducting engagements take him him to Qatar and Palermo, among other things.
