Harpa, Reykjavík’s Concert Hall and Conference Centre, designed by renowned artist Olafur Eliasson, opened in May 2011. The striking addition to Reykjavík’s skyline celebrated its official inauguration on Saturday 20 August with a showcase of artistic excellence including performances by the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, the world premiere of two pieces for seven harps by composers Mist Þorkelsdóttir and Atli Heimir Sveinsson, and a display by Chinese acrobats.
