Dejan Lazić – Piano / Composer

Dejan Lazić’s fresh interpretations of the repertoire have established him as one of the most unique and unusual soloists of his generation. He appears with such orchestras as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Netherlands Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Swedish Radio, Danish National, Chicago Symphony and Boston Symphony Orchestra. With Channel Classics he has released a dozen recordings, including his critically acclaimed Liaisons series; the latest of which couples together C.P.E. Bach and Britten. His live recording of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with London Philharmonic Orchestra/Kirill Petrenko received the prestigious German Echo Klassik Award. A recording of the Beethoven Triple Concerto was also released to critical acclaim, for Sony Music.

He has built close collaborations with some of today’s most sought after conductors including Giovanni Antonini, Iván Fischer, Andris Nelsons, Robert Spano, John Storgårds, and Krzysztof Urbanski.

Dejan Lazić’s compositions are receiving increased recognition, and he was recently signed as a composer by Sikorski Music Publishing Group. His arrangement of Brahms’ Violin Concerto as a piano concerto was premiered with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in 2009 and has enjoyed much ongoing success, at BBC Proms, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Hamburg Easter Festival, Chopin Festival Warsaw, in both Americas and in Japan. Lazić has performed his ‘Piano Concerto in Istrian Style’ several times since its premiere in 2014. He had his first orchestral work, a symphonic poem entitled ‘Mozart and Salieri’ (inspired by Alexander Pushkin’s eponymous drama) premiered by Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Krzysztof Urbanski on 28th April 2017 in Indianapolis. In the sold-out Hilbert Circle Theatre the audience praised the piece with standing ovation. > More information

Born into a musical family in Zagreb, Croatia, Lazić grew up in Salzburg, Austria, where he studied at the Mozarteum. He now lives in Amsterdam.

His current CD, a solo recital disc of works by Franz Liszt has been released on 21st of April 2017 on Onyx Classics with the title “Life, Love & Afterlife”. It’s a fascinating portrait of Liszt as composer, arranger and restless traveller.

The next recording project “The London Connection” will comprise the recording of L. van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto in D major, Op. 61a (Beethoven’s Arrangement of his Violin Concerto, Op. 61) and the Piano Sonatas B minor of M. Clementi and E major of J. B. Cramer. It will be a collaboration with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and Gordan Nikolić (artistic leader). The recording sessions as well as some concerts will take place from 27.10.-31.10.2017 in Amsterdam. The release is planed for spring 2018 at Onyx.
